This Day In History. July 31st, 1997 – The Bills Get a New Lease on Life.
The Bills, Erie County and New York State agree on a new lease for Rich Stadium. This agreement however had a clause that said before the state would release $63 million for upgrades; the team would have to sell $11 million in luxury boxes. Doug Flutie worked some magic and Western New York fans came through before the December 1st, ’98 deadline thereby ensuring 15 more years of football in Buffalo.
